On May 18th, 2009, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the China Disabled Persons' Federation jointly issued a notice entitled "Notice on the Nationwide 'Love Your Eyes Day' Activities in 2009" to actively promote the national policy on prevention and treatment of blindness through various forms such as television, radio, newspapers, and the Internet, to introduce blindness prevention and treatment programs, to disseminate eye health knowledge, especially knowledge on protecting the vision of children and teenagers, and to raise public awareness of blindness prevention and treatment. The content of the notice is as follows:

June 6th, 2009 is the fourteenth nationwide "Love Your Eyes Day". This year's theme is "Focusing on the Eye Health of Children and Teenagers". In order to popularize the knowledge of scientific eye use, improve the eye health level of children and teenagers, and prevent eye diseases, the following matters related to the nationwide "Love Your Eyes Day" activities in 2009 are notified:

1.Local health, education administrative departments and disabled persons' federations at all levels should fully realize the importance and role of launching the "Love Your Eyes Day" publicity activities in improving the eye health level of children and teenagers and preventing eye diseases, and further strengthen communication and coordination, actively deploy and carry out this activity.

2.On June 6th, 2009, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the China Disabled Persons' Federation will carry out publicity activities in Beijing. In other regions, based on the requirements of relevant documents such as "Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on Strengthening Physical Education and Enhancing the Physical Fitness of Children and Teenagers", "Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on Promoting the Development of the Disabled Persons' Cause", and "National Plan for Prevention and Treatment of Blindness (2006-2010)", work plans for "Love Your Eyes Day" activities shall be formulated, specialized organizations and personnel shall be designated, and careful organization and implementation shall be carried out.

3.During the "Love Your Eyes Day" activities, medical institutions, blindness prevention and treatment workers, and ophthalmologists shall be mobilized to carry out free clinics, consultations, special lectures, etc., to provide eye health services to the public. Schools, families, and other places shall be fully utilized to help children and teenagers master scientific eye use knowledge and methods, cultivate good eye habits among students, and reduce the rate of myopia among children and teenagers.

4.Positive communication and coordination with news media shall be made to promote the national policy on prevention and treatment of blindness through various forms such as television, radio, newspapers, the Internet, etc., to introduce blindness prevention and treatment programs, disseminate eye health knowledge, especially knowledge on protecting the vision of children and teenagers, and raise public awareness of blindness prevention and treatment.
